What Is A French Braid?
A French braid might be the most commonly known plait other than a basic three-strand braid. A French braid basically adds one more step to the basic braid technique by starting up near the crown of your head as opposed to the nape of your neck. It follows the same pattern of crossing the left strand over the middle strand, then crossing the right strand over the middle strand, and repeating all the way down—except every time you’re going to cross a side strand over the middle strand, you first add extra hair from that side of the head.

How To Make A French Braid?
The first step to French braiding is as easy as it gets: comb your hair so that it’s tangle-free. Then, beginning at the hairline, gather your hair into a triangular section that includes hair from just above your temples and extends towards the crown area. After that, separate this large section of hair into three smaller ones which will be the strands you’ll use to braid.
Take the left section of hair and cross it over the center, as you would with a traditional three-strand braid. Repeat this step with the right section. After completing these initial crossovers on both sides, you can start incorporating hair from the outside of the braid to begin weaving your French braid.
Continue the same method, but start adding small sections of hair from both sides. Pick up half-inch sections of hair to keep the braid balanced. Repeat this braiding technique until all of the hair from both sides of the braid is added, says Bowman. Then, continue with a classic, three-strand braid like the one you started with.
